Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose and Position Overview: Snow & Company is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic shipbuilding team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex electrical systems aboard commercial work boats and other maritime vessels. These systems include power generation and distribution, lighting, propulsion support, navigation, and communication networks.

This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position requiring independent judgment, technical precision, and innovative problem-solving. You will create and review detailed calculations, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure all work complies with maritime electrical standards, codes, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design new ways to use electrical power to develop or improve products such as electronic components, software, and systems.
  • Develop electrical system architecture, specifications, and designs for marine vessels.
  • Support integration of electric propulsion components (batteries, drives, inverters, chargers, etc.) in a commercial marine environment.
  • Develop block diagrams, schematics, and appropriate details purchase specifications for marine electronic equipment including switchboards, distribution panels, generators, motors, and power management systems.
  • Perform calculations required for implementation of marine electrical load analysis, cable and breaker sizing, and generators.
  • Plan and develop applications and modifications for electrical and electronic components used in parts and systems to improve technical performance.
  • Liaise with internal and external suppliers and contractors.

  • Oversee the installation of electrical equipment and integration of controls, alarm, and monitoring systems
  • Monitor and maintain compliance of installation work with relevant standards and regulations.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field with relevant shipyard and/or marine operations experience.
  • Proficiency in Rhino3D with experience in AutoCAD or other CAD systems.
  • Strong understanding of marine electrical principles and marine electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Class and Regulatory requirements as well as a fundamental understanding of good/typical marine practice and marine operational demands.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems for commissioning and repair work.
  • Broad knowledge of and established relationships with marine electrical/electronics vendors, suppliers, and other crucial shipyard resources.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound engineering judgment
  • Strong collaboration skills with a team-oriented mindset
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement

Certifications / Licenses:

  • Professional Engineering License (Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, or Electrical) preferred
    - or –
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification (Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred

Physical Requirements:

The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in an office setting as well as in production areas and onboard vessels and may require:

  • Ability to work in shipyard production areas and onboard vessels.
  • Ability to walk to and from job sites and climb inclined stairways
  • Availability for shifts longer than 8 hours and/or weekend work if needed.
  • Frequent activities including walking, standing, sitting, using hands and arms, reaching, talking & hearing.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $80,000 - $110,000 / annually
