Peer Support Specialist

Part-Time (30 hours per week)/ Non-Exempt / Great Falls

Position Overview: Peer Specialist provides community-based peer support services that are designed to promote the recovery, empowerment, and community integration of individuals who have severe and chronic behavioral health challenges. Will facilitate opportunities for individuals receiving service to direct their own recovery and advocacy process, by teaching and supporting individuals. Promoting the knowledge of available service options and choices of natural resources in the community and help facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth

Job Duties:

  1. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help clients to develop a personal recovery plan and identify opportunities to provide support as clients work to achieve their recovery goals
  2. Focus of duties is only for the clients at the Behavioral Health Group Home (BHGH).
  3. Must self-identify as a client of mental health and/or substance abuse person in recovery of mental health
  4. Listens and encourages clients to talk about their lives, struggles and goals
  5. Must manage a client caseload of all the BHGH clients
  6. Promotes client self-determination and decision-making
  7. Coaches and supports clients who are developing the necessary skills for integration into the community
  8. Advocates for clients working in recovery that are developing life skills and building confidence to attain goals
  9. Interacts with referral contacts within the community
  10. Links clients to resources identified within the wellness recovery plan
  11. Models competency in recovery and maintaining ongoing wellness
  12. Liaison with other members of the treatment team to develop an effective support system for the client
  13. Monitors and supports client through regular interactions and peer support.
  14. Report concerns, records progress notes on clients; incidents and calls to multidisciplinary team.
  15. Assumes responsibility for the workload assigned, working independently and cooperatively with the team
  16. Maintains records, reports and statistics necessary for program functioning and in accordance with Many Rivers policies
  17. Must pass Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist (BHPSS) certification within one (1) months of employment
  18. Must participate in peer support training consisting of one week of 40 hours of initial training, any additional provided and requested by Many Rivers, and 20 CEU’s over subsequent years
  19. Clinical supervision requirement of 1 hour required for every 20 hours worked
  20. Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet)
  21. Must have a Montana valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and current vehicle insurance, travel required.
  22. Attends in-service trainings per management such as CPR, MANDT, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. GED or Highschool Diploma required
  2. 1-2 years’ experience in dealing with mental illness issues and related mental health services.
  3. Must have a personal recovery experience for mental health and/or substance use.
  4. Must be in recovery for 2 years.
  5. Without incarceration, hospitalization, or inpatient admission exceeding 72 hours in the last 2 years.
  6. Must have some knowledge and experience of severe mental illness and treatment, and its impact on consumer/survivors and their families.
  7. Computer skills an asset.
  8. Must obtain Certification within 1 month of hired date.

Hourly Wage: $16.50 + DOE

All Positions at Many Rivers Whole Health must pass Background Checks and Motor Vehicle Record Check.
