Marine Engineer (Must live in Miami, Florida)

Duties

  1. To help the Port Engineer/Assistant Port Engineer fully in all matters related to shipboard operation and maintenance of the ship.
  2. To supervise Engineers on board while vessel is docked, during the maintenance performed to machineries equipment in accordance with manuals and instructions made by manufacturers or the Company and with rules and regulations laid down by the authorities and the classification society.

  1. Give instructions for preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance in the engine room personally if necessary, during engine maintenance, trials, or when a deficiency is detected in the engine.
  2. Assume responsibility for maintenance of machinery in the engine room and other spaces in the responsibility of the Engine Department, and responsibility for managing fuel oil and lubricating oil. In accordance with manuals and instructions made by manufacturers or the Company and with rules and regulations laid down by the authorities and the classification society.
  3. Supervise and help to identify in the engine room the measures to prevent air and marine pollution when carrying out various tasks.
  4. Understand the condition of the engine, perform opening-up inspections of various parts of the engine.
  5. Pay particular attention to the accuracy of measuring instruments.
  6. Personally supervise opening-up or repairs of important parts of the engine, under instructions and directions of Port Engineer/Assistant Port Engineer.
  7. Check and inspect vessels special ship's stores for the Engine Department and prepare related documents and reports.
  8. To ensure that the supplies of spare parts and materials for use in the operation and maintenance of the engine are adequate and that supplies are replenished in due time whenever spare parts, materials, etc. have been used.
  9. Quality control of spare parts, materials and other goods received to be used in the area for which he is responsible.
  10. Help to Engineer officer to maintain important documents, drawings and other records under the responsibility of the Engine Department in safe custody.
  11. Perform inspection on the engine room to be in compliance with SMS, Solas, Marpol, Class, Flag and PSC/USCG regulation.
  12. Inspect and check Oily Record Book annotations.
  13. Revise and audit annual maintenance Program in the engine room department.
  14. In co-operation with the Port Engineer and Assistant to Port Engineer to plan maintenance and to prepare descriptions of work to be done next time the ship is being docked.
  15. In co-operation with the Port Engineer and Assistant to Port Engineer to inspect work performed by a shipyard during docking or by any other repair or service firm.
  16. Keep the Port Engineer / Assitan Port Engineer informed of any defects or any matters that may give rise to problems in relation to machinery or machinery-related installations.
  17. Report items that are important to Port Engineer / Ship management without delay.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Endorsements

  • Minimum five (5) years of engine room sea time.
  • Minimum three (3) years of sea time as a licensed Chief Engineer Or (5) years as licensed Second Engineer.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of vessel repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable U.S. Coast Guard and IACS rules and regulations
  • Working knowledge of vessel management and project management software
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions
  • Availability to work over time and weekend.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with vessel operations
  • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery
  • Valid Chief Engineer or Second Engineer Certificate Of Competence (COC)
  • Valid TWIC or ability to obtain
  • Must live in Miami FL and have proper U.S documentation
