Working independently, the Interim Jewish Chaplain is part of the Interfaith Chaplaincy of The Claremont Colleges and serves the Jewish campus community through outreach, worship opportunities, pastoral counseling, community building, and facilitation of other programs, services, and events. This role will provide outreach to the ethnically and culturally diverse constituency of the Jewish community at The Claremont Colleges. As part of the egalitarian Chaplaincy team, the Interim Jewish Chaplain will model mutual respect for diverse faith communities and assist with orientation trainings, collaborative programs, and other Chaplaincy events for the seven Claremont Colleges. This is a 10-month interim position from August 2025 through May 2026 with benefits and the possibility of reappointment. This is a student-facing position which must work onsite in Claremont, California.Essential functions include leadership and facilitation of Jewish religious observances and rituals, engaging students with education and cultural events, outreach and support to the Jewish community, advising student groups, pastoral counseling, collaboration with religious affiliates and other chaplains, interfaith programming, crisis support, and program assessment. The role requires participation in campus-wide events and training, and use of Microsoft Office tools.Qualifications include a master’s degree in rabbinic studies, Jewish studies, or equivalent, ordination and/or professional chaplain training, experience in leadership, programming, teaching, and diverse worship practices, and competencies in multi-faith work, Torah knowledge, social justice commitment, interpersonal skills, public speaking, and collaboration. Hebrew language skills and a master’s in religious studies or theology are preferred.The work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with possible holiday, weekend, or evening hours. The position is interim from August 2025 through May 2026.Compensation is competitive, between $9,000 - $9,500 per month, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, life insurance, time off, professional development, discounts, and fitness access.
