The Associate Director of IT is a leadership position within the UMSI-IT unit at the University of Michigan School of Information. Reporting to the Director of IT Systems and Services, you will help manage the IT department's operations, ensuring that the team remains on track, efficient, and aligned with the unit's strategic objectives. The Associate Director will play a crucial role in project management, team leadership, strategic planning, and will contribute significantly to the overall success of our IT initiatives.
Team Leadership : Assist the CIO in managing a team of IT professionals, promoting a collaborative and creative work environment. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, helping them develop professionally.
Project Management: Oversee the delivery of IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. Use project management methodologies to track progress and address any issues that arise.
Performance Management: Develop and implement performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of IT services and projects. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the school and implement best practices to enhance efficiency.
Budget Management: Support the preparation and management of the UMSI-IT's budget, ensuring accurate allocation of resources.
Oversee daily staff activities : providing guidance, and training to ensure team members are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to meet departmental goals.
Education : Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience : At least 5 years of experience in IT management, in a higher education or related setting. At least 5 years experience leading teams and managing complex projects.
ITIL and Service Management: Understanding of ITIL frameworks and service management best practices.
Work Tracking: Experience using JIRA or other task management software to track work within an IT team.
Punctual and regular attendance is required. Must be available during most EST business hours. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $133,000. Salary is determined by direct relevant experience and demonstrated past performance results while ensuring equity on our team. All candidates are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
